BIA Comes Out with Official Statement

The Bendhermong Intelligence Agency issued a report on the current conflict between Mervo and Imara. Though it has declined to pass judgement on Mervo, it has confirmed Bulutaitai's supposition on Imara. "Imara has every interest to be an aggressor. It fears its hegemony in the maritime realm may be threatened, and is acting preemptively to secure its vital interests which center around a bellicose and expansionist policy." When questioning Admiral Q over Bendhermong's navy's thoughts, he replied "We are currently conferring with intelligence, the rest of the military community, and of course our leadership in the capital, King Fong, but we do not necessarily perceive any conflict arising between Imara and Bendhermong, unless a flagrant act of aggression challenges the rights of the Bendhermongese kingdom." Chief of Staff, Marshal Herman had a slightly different tone "Imara would do well to avoid conflict with Bendhermong. Their aggressive actions against Mervo and highhandedness with Zangora may pass for now, but if they so much as touch a hair of the head of a citizen of Bendhermong, we will give them a taste of their own medicine."

Bendhermongese Think Tank, Bulutaitai, Offers Thoughts on Current Events

Bendhermongese Think Tank, Bulutaitai (BLT), Offers Thoughts on Current Events

"In light of recent events, we have come to a few conclusions about the situation prevalent throughout the world's hot spots, and would like to offer our collective opinion. With regard to Zangora's loss of ships and Imara's "convoying" of said merchant fleet, we hold it a very unwise act of Zangora to accept any such aid. BLT does not have conclusive evidence that Mervo is responsible for sinking Zangora's ships, or on the other hand that Imara is framing Mervo (we would cease to be a think tank and instead would usurp the authority of the Bendhermong Intelligence Agency (BIA)). However we do think, in light of recent history, that we should call attention to Imara's aggressive history and the attempt (though failed) of the major powers of the world to get up a coalition to stop their expansionist advances. Therefore, it seems to us that Imara might again be seeking to take advantage of a nation, not even honorably by an outright declaration of war, but by subversive means seeking to aggrandize themselves and so inflame the situation as to gain their own ends."

Mervo Protests Imaran Attacks

March 17, 1913

The Mervan government sends a formal protest to the international community following Imara's declaration of war. Mervo proclaims its innocence to the world and believes that Imara has attacked Zangora's vessels so as to frame Mervo. Imara has faked telegrams and messages and has no evidence of such attacks by Mervo. Thus, Mervo calls on the international community to denounce Imaran aggression.

Imara Declares War on Mervo

March 16, 1913

Imaran Times

Based on Imaran investigations of the sinking of Zangoran merchant vessels, Imaran naval authorities have witnessed Mervan (NPC 7) vessels fleeing both "accidents." Furthermore, Imaran intelligence has discovered and decoded the following Mervan telegram to a naval officer:

"Zangoran merchants too strong competition STOP. Destroy by all means possible STOP."

For these reasons, Imara is acting to halt the Mervan menace to international trade and calls on all nations of the world to join forces in destroying Merva's naval capacity.

Imara and Quatron Agree to Escort Zangoran Vessels

The nations of Imara and Quatron have agreed to provide naval escorts for Zangoran merchant ships.

Second Zangoran Merchant Ship Sinks

March 10, 1913

Zangoran Times

A second merchant ship has sunk off the coast of Zangora's colony; the site of the sinking is 100,6. Zangoran authorities are investigating the second accident to determine whether there is a faulty design or foul play.

Per government orders, Zangora is escorting all merchant ships with naval vessels, but, as such vessels are not sufficiently numerous, much of Zangora's merchant marine is stuck in port.

Vrymnul speaks on aggression.

The following excerpt is from a recent speech given by the King of Vrymnul:

"In our recent events, Vrymnul has become familiar with the traits and characteristics of aggressive nations. We have become familiar with the obstacles they face, and the hardships they endure. Although the was has ended, Vrymnul keeps these things in mind. Furthermore, we wish to impart our wisdom on other nations, that aggression is a dangerous path not to be tread lightly, for it is always met with the harshest resistance.

Our condolences go out to the Zangora for their loss of their ship and the souls that crewed it. We wish that events like such will not occur again, for the consequences of such events are great and grave."

Thalessaboran General Calls for Larger Military

Guest Editorial - Thalessaboran Free Press

In light of the recent wars and invasions, it behooves Thalessaboran to improve its army and begin production of military units. Like all of us, I hope for world peace, but I realize that this is becoming increasingly more difficult in light of current events. I therefore urge the Thalessaboran government to increase production of its military, both as a deterrent to foreign powers and in case such a war does erupt.

I hope that this advice is heeded soon.
